is_anchor

The  is_anchor field allows you to control the category filter. You can find the field in magento under the section Catalog > Manage Categories > Display Settings.
– When is_anchor is set to “yes”, various attributes of the products that are within the category and subcategories will be displayed by the Layered Navigation block (e.g. color, size). Not all attributes will be displayed, only those that are configured to be filterable and whose input type is set to be a drop-down menu.- When is_anchor set to “no”, only links to subcategories are shown in “Shop by” – section- Values: Yes: 1, No: 0, default: 0- Can not be overwritten in STORE VIEW, it’s a GLOBAL Attribute- Non-obligatory
