Contentserv Credentials

The Contentserv Credentials are a key feature of the Contentserv Suite: They allow you to create, manage, change and delete your logins and subsequent passwords. You can use those for fast access, sharing data and even AI purposes.

In this article you will learn how to navigate and use the credential menu.

How to create a credential

1) In your Contentserv Suite select Settings (the cogwheel symbol on the left navigation bar).

2) Select General.

3) A sub menu opens. In it, click on Credentials.

To summarize: Settings (cogwheel) → GeneralCredentials.

4) To create a new credential, click on ‘Create new‘ (the + symbol in the upper menu).

An Add new Credential menu opens.

Add new Credential / Edit Credential

Name

Defines the name of your credential.

Since it primarily serves the purpose of database assignment, the name should be arrangend in an easily assignable manner, for example: ‘company_department_project‘ or ‘CompanyDepartmentProject‘. For easier management it is recommended to define a standardized naming beforehand.

Label

While the Name represents the technical name of the credential—also known as the external key—this setting controls the displayed name of the credential, hence you can choose the label more freely with less of a naming convention.

For example:

Name = chatGptApiKey
Label = ChatGPT API Key [AI]

Description

The description of the credential.

Token

Here you can set a password—which is called a token—for your credential.

After you entered your key the suite will ask you to verify it by typing it again. This is to ensure that you have entered the token correctly.

Module

This allows you to assign your credentials to a Contentserv module, such as ‘SAWSConnector (sawsconnector)‘.

How to finalize your credential

5) Fill out the boxes as required.

i) You can’t specify the ID for your credential! It will be assigned automatically and consecutively.

6) Under ‘Show more options …’ you will find further useful functions, such as a timeline, CloudStream tools or help pages.

7) Save the credential using the Save button or the key combination ALT + S.

Why Credentials?

You are probably wondering why using a credential system with tokens instead of just simple passwords for predefined logins. The answer is to maximize security. With the SAWSConnector version 1.18, all connector configurations were switched to the credential system, since the credentials encrypt the token so it can’t be hacked or leaked.

When updating to a Contentserv version, that supports credentials, all your existing passwords in connector configurations will automatically be migrated to the Contentserv credentials.

Known issues

Until today (version PXC 25) the Contenserv Suite suffers from a password error. After an update, it can happen that the token is incorrectly encrypted or assigned and is therefore no longer usable. In this case, it must be re-entered in the credential.
